🤓 Did you know?

In Japan, the arrival of spring is celebrated with a festival called Shunbun No Hi (春分の日), or in English, Vernal Equinox Day. The 20th or 21st of March each year is therefore a public holiday, and families take the opportunity to get together to pay tribute to their ancestors and lay flowers on their graves. Everyone also celebrates the renewal of nature by planting sakura, the famous Japanese cherry trees with pink blossoms.

🌍 Translation Fun Fact

Translation… an Olympic discipline? Not yet, but it is the subject of a competition every year among several hundred secondary school pupils from the 27 member countries of the European Union! For 18 years, the European Commission has been challenging young Europeans to take on the arduous exercise of translation, in the language combination of their choice from among the 24 official languages of the EU. At the end of this competition, entitled ‘Juvenes Translatores‘, one winner is selected from each country based on the quality of their translation. On 10 April, the winners will have the opportunity to travel to Brussels to receive their prize and meet the various translators at the European Commission.
